Tomato Hazelnut Soup Recipe
I’m excited to share this recipe because of the way it came together.
I was put on antibiotics for sinus infections when I was a teenager. Always looking for natural solutions, I came across a recipe. The person who wrote about it, said it worked wonders. She used 4 easy ingredients; bottled tomato sauce, lemon juice, garlic, and hot sauce. I followed it exactly how she wrote it. And it did work wonders.
In this recipe I cook the garlic more than when I was trying to clear a sinus infection. Originally, I chopped the garlic finely and only put it in the tomato sauce at the end of heating it up, so it was still somewhat raw. In this soup, I smash the cloves and brown them crispy. Either way you choose, is up to you.
I use fresh tomatoes, and added flavors, including rosemary which is one of the herbs I use for colds. I also added hazelnuts for a little bit of plant protein and creaminess.
I like to double this recipe and store it for a few days when I have more tomatoes.

Wellness Tomato Soup
Ingredients
- 1 Lb. Tomatoes (any variety)
- 1/4 Cup Hazelnuts
- 3/4 Cup Filtered Water (plus more for soaking)
- 1/4 Lb. Gypsy Peppers
- 1 Fresh Onion with Green Tops
- 1 Tsp. Ground Sumac (or more)
- 1/2 Tsp. Sea Salt
- 3 Cloves Garlic (or more)
- Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
- Rosemary
- Basil
- Chili Crunch Oil, or Chili Flakes, or Hot Sauce
Instructions
- Soak the hazelnuts in water over night. Drain and rinse them the next day.
- Smash garlic and remove the skins. You can really go wild with garlic if you want to use more. Sauté chopped peppers and onions with avocado oil in a large pan until they're cooked down. Add some fresh rosemary half way into cooking.
- Sauté cloves of garlic in a little pan on medium heat, browning them on both sides.
- Chop the tomatoes into quarters.
- Put all ingredients into a blender with the hazelnuts, and add a bunch of fresh basil.
- Garnish with fresh oregano, chili crunch oil, basil leaves, onion slices, and garlic cloves.
Notes
Basil is nice if you have it, otherwise rosemary is enough.
The best chili crunch oil I know of is the one made at Erewhon Market. They use organic ingredients, and it's not made with oils that aren't good for us. It's a pricey item, but it goes a long way, and it works out to cost less than making it myself. Otherwise, sprinkling with chili flakes is more than good enough!
